Marking Up The Granite City
Colloquially known as the Granite City, Aberdeen is well known for the large amount of stone used throughout the city. Although the granite improves the city’s aesthetics it is not without its drawbacks; thermoplastic line markings struggle to achieve good adhesion to the stone. Not only does this mean that the lines have had to be regularly reinstated, increasing CO2 generation and cost, but it also makes enforcing parking and traffic restrictions difficult.
In a demonstration to the Council, Stirling Lloyd’s Technical Services staff applied Safetrack LM, the company’s cold applied road marking product, pigmented Primrose on the High Street in Aberdeen. On-site measurements showed that Stirling Lloyd’s Safetrack LM achieved an average adhesion level of an impressive 2.7MPa.
In addition to the line markings, Aberdeen City Council were also looking to repair various cracks near the city’s harbour. HGVs accessing the port take their toll on the road and to prevent water penetrating into the cracks causing further deterioration, three meters of Stirling Lloyd’s HAPAS approved Safetrack Crack Infill material was applied on South Esplanade West.
