Safetrack enhances safety at new bus stops in Merthyr Tydfil

2nd Mar 2009

Residents of Merthyr Tydfil, in the heart of south Wales, have recently benefited from the introduction of 25 new bus stops and Stirling Lloyd’s Safetrack range was on hand to assist in the installation.

200lm of Safetrack LM, pigmented a highly visible yellow, was laid on the pavement edge to provide a visual warning to both bus passengers and pedestrians. The material had to be applied not only to asphalt but also concrete and granite, substrates that the materials the Council had used to date could not cope with. Safetrack LM achieves a very strong bond to these difficult substrates ensuring a long service and the Council with a long-term, cost effective solution.

Also part of the scheme was the application of approximately 200lm of Safetrack Overbanding, to seal the joint between the old and new asphalt laid during the project.

The outcome: Unlike traditional methods of line marking and overbanding, Safetrack is safe for the public and applicator alike, as it does not require the use of ‘Hot Trades’. Consequently the 25 new bus stops could remain in use during the application resulting in no disruption to the town’s bus service.
